We are better together.

Nurture is building a community where all families are supported through the life-changing journey of pregnancy, birth, and early parenting. Your donation helps create pathways to trusted support, educational services, and community resources so that our families have the best possible start into parenthood.

Nurture is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of childbearing families through fitness, education, social support, and community engagement. #RVAbreastfeeds is our Healthy Communities Action Team that seeks to reduce childhood obesity through policy, infrastructure, and environmental changes that promote a breastfeeding friendly community. Our work has received attention in multiple publications, at national and international conferences, and was featured in the 2018 Journal of Human Lactation special issue on Social Justice. We are currently leading a collective impact initiative focused on achieving the 10 Steps of the Breastfeeding Family Friendly Designation for Richmond.

Since our 2013 launch, Nurture has offered Richmond's first donation-based prenatal and postnatal yoga programs and provided professional development programming on critical topics such as Perinatal Loss and Childbirth Trauma. Our bi-annual RVA Breastfeeding Symposia have brought together community stakeholders to explore topics such as First Food: The Intersection of Health, Race, Policy, and Practice and the Ready-Set-BABY Lactation Education Curriculum. Each year we host public awareness campaigns that align with World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month campaign goals. We also host the annual Nurture RVA Birth & Baby Fair, connecting pregnant and postpartum families with area perinatal service providers. This program is currently on hold till 2022 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
